leaving high point

It took me two and a half months to prepare the High Point, North Carolina house and organize my move to Maine. It’s been a challenge to 1) make a decision 2) figure out what needed to be done 3) let go of things I no longer need (including the lifestyle that Scott and I so carefully designed to share with each other) and 4) get my possessions and myself and Loolie out of the house in time to get it listed at exactly the right time this spring. Today is that day. The result is MLSΒ 878469.

Andy Leung of Keller Williams has the listing. I vacated on Wednesday and am currently enjoying some relaxing, warm family time in Florida. Loolie is enjoying her dog cousin Moet (aka “Blonde Hershey“). We are not in a rush to be in Maine in winter. Instead, I had my things moved to a 10′ x 10′ storage unit on the island and headed south to my brother’s house.

There are so many things I love about this house. It’s urban convenience yet its park setting with wildlife as abundant as my Maine backyard. Possum, raccoons, barred owls, great blue herons, hawks, woodpeckers…I’ve seen them all here from my spacious deck. It’s utterly private and the street is very quiet. The light pouring in–especially to this room via 18 foot windows and two skylights– inspired creativity and happiness.

There’s so much extra “bonus” square footage. The Mid-Century-Modern features that were kept in place. Scott and I were only the 2nd real homeowners. The original owners of this 1954 built home were a father and son who deeded it to the Smithsonian Institute when they died. Two old timers bought it and flipped it to us. We added well over a thousand square feet of outdoor entertainment decks, and, built out a room with salvaged windows to contain our ping pong table. The table is gone now but the red walls for easy visibility of pong balls remain in this designated bonus “Sun Room” off my former art studio.

I said if you mean the one with the giant windows and deck, yes. He said he was from California and LOVED it because it reminded him of home. I took that as a thumb’s up and told him how Scott and I moved from California and saw the same potential he was seeing now. It’s ready for its new owners to call it home.

  1. Oh Katy! Having been to the Farriss street abode when Scott was healing up the first time. I know what you have accomplished! WOW is all i can say, you have nailed it figuratively and in reality I’m sure. Hope you’ve priced it high enough, i expect an bidding war to erupt, asking price plus. We just went thru a similar process with a bungalow we thought we would be retiring into. So i know how much work you did. WE salute you , you are a Wonder Woman , Scott used to tell me so himself. Hugs Muck Can’t wait for our visit! You might be able to see our bungalow if you google 230 Pylant St , Senoia GA

    • Hi Vicki! How cool that you’re still following the blog-thankyou! The decision to move was partially based on easier to write when hunkered down in one place. Maine is that place. Stay tuned for The Book. LOL.
