Sitting on my deck, meditating on my garden and the emergence of an abundance of Monarch butterflies in it this summer…when I suddenly noticed that Fishgirl was sporting a stunning new bracelet. Yes, it’s an incredibly poignant and auspicious chrysalis placement. I feel like the Queen of the Butterflies.

Last evening I was showing off my garden to my friend Nancy. While we were walking around the yard, Nancy spotted a fully grown Monarch butterfly spreading its wings out on the lawn. Worried that we or my dog might destroy it in a misstep, Nancy gently picked it up and put it onto a […]
Do caterpillars poop? You bet your frass they do! Today I noticed several pellets by my Monarch caterpillars and decided to google it. Caterpillar poop is singularly known as frass. My five Monarch siblings have opened their own tiny-green-pellet factory on my milkweed plant. They are beginning to consume the showy blossoms in addition to […]
Diligence ©katy allgeyer Much to my delight, this morning I discovered that my milkweed bush has– not one, but five–Monarch butterfly caterpillars chomping away on it. Each tiger striped caterpillar has selected its own stalk of milkweed. How do they know to do that? Since I have four siblings, I’ve decided to name these beings […]

Magic happens there. Every time. Some day I’ll share that experience with you in greater detail. Meanwhile, since I was in the neighborhood of […]
The last thing I expected to see when I opened the New Hampshire Union Leader at my mom’s house this morning was a full color 7″ x 7″ photo of Scott’s and my friend Michael Uvanni. The piece was excerpted from USA Today and is titled “Cancer Treatment Hype Gives False Hope”. The article in […]
I highly recommend FM Brown’s Birdlovers No Waste Blend 40% Peanuts & Sunflower Hearts for attracting songbirds, cardinals, woodpeckers, and doves. I fill my birdfeeder with it but additionally cast it along the flat rail of my deck banisters for a bird buffet. Little did I know–until this morning–that it would attract the attention of […]
Yesterday my friend Pat was driving us to a charity dinner event in Winston. A sudden squall of dark clouds and rain was quickly followed by this rainbow. We did not take this photo but this is the exact rainbow that we saw as captured by somebody else. It also happened to be my birthday. What […]
Here’s a love story that is going to turn your heart into a melting hot plate of mac ‘n’ cheese: this couple met as a result of the Boston Marathon bombing. Boston Globe journalist Ken Cullen does a remarkable job of teasing out all the nuances in his article about how “love is stronger than […]
